GlossBook

Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 15, 2026

GlossBook is a camera-based translation tool. Point the camera at printed text, tap a word, and a translation of that word in its surrounding context appears on screen.

This policy explains what GlossBook processes on your device, what is sent off your device, what is stored, and the choices available to you.

Data processed and stored on your device

When you capture a printed page, the still image is held in memory and shown to you full-screen. On-device text recognition finds words in the image. The image is not uploaded and is discarded when you close the capture.

GlossBook stores the following information locally:

Local translation history and books remain on your device until you delete them in GlossBook or uninstall the app. History includes controls to delete individual translations, a book and its translations, or all displayed history.

If you use Copy or Export, the content you select is placed on the system clipboard or passed to the destination you choose through Apple's share sheet. The receiving app or service handles that content under its own privacy policy.

Context-aware online translations

When GlossBook performs a context-aware online translation, it sends:

GlossBook sends this information over HTTPS to our server and onward only to language-processing endpoints that support Zero Data Retention. This restriction is enforced on every online translation request.

Our server does not store the tapped word, sentence, or resulting translation after the request is completed. The language-processing endpoint uses the submitted text only to produce the requested translation. Under Zero Data Retention, the submitted text and resulting translation are not retained after processing and are not used to train models.

Cached translations and on-device offline translations do not send the word or sentence to our server. Offline language downloads and translations are provided by Apple and are subject to Apple's privacy practices.

We do not send camera images, the full recognized page, your contacts, location, advertising identifier, name, email address, or phone number with translation requests. Text from a printed page can itself contain personal information, so only tap content you are comfortable sending for online translation.

Service, device, and subscription information

GlossBook does not require an account and does not collect direct contact identifiers unless you choose to contact support. To operate and secure the service, the app and server process limited technical and purchase-related information:

Our server stores pseudonymous authentication records, trial usage, subscription entitlement records, and aggregated per-device usage costs. These records are not used to identify you by name. Trial-consumption and fraud-prevention records may be retained for the life of the service so that deleting and reinstalling the app does not reset the trial. Subscription and operational records are retained for as long as reasonably necessary to provide access, process renewals or refunds, secure the service, resolve disputes, and meet accounting or legal obligations.

Advertising, analytics, and tracking

GlossBook does not show advertising and does not use third-party analytics or tracking SDKs. We do not sell personal information and do not track you across apps or websites owned by other companies.

We collect the limited operational metrics and logs described above to deliver translations, monitor reliability, control costs, prevent abuse, and understand aggregate service usage. These records are not used for advertising.

Your choices and deletion

You can delete locally stored translations and books from History. Uninstalling GlossBook deletes its local database and preferences, subject to the normal behavior of device backups and Apple's platform services.

To ask a privacy question or request deletion of server-side information, email privacy@gloss-book.app. Because GlossBook has no user accounts, we may need information from your device or recent request activity to locate a pseudonymous record. We may retain limited information where necessary for fraud prevention, subscription administration, legal compliance, or legal claims.

What we do not do

Children

GlossBook is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The product is a general-purpose reading aid suitable for a broad audience. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the service, contact us so we can investigate and delete it where appropriate.

Changes

If we change how GlossBook handles data, we will update this policy and the "Last updated" date above. Material changes may also be noted in the app's release notes.
